Natural Glo Airbrush Artistry

I first heard of Natural Glo Airbrush Artistry through a fellow #BossBabe Instagram account. Following along for about a year, I watched the growth of Natural Glo and was impressed. Fast forward and my journey as a candidate in the Miss California Organization, I knew I wanted to partner with local businesses who help grow women’s confidence and dedicate resources to their community. Natural Glo came to mind.

Walking into the salon to meet with owner Sara Rogers, I was impressed with the aesthetic and welcoming atmosphere. Clearly a busy woman, Sara made time for me while providing her clients with first-class customer service. As we talked about what it means to compete in the Miss America Organization and how sponsor support provides scholarships for young women, I found a kindred spirit.

Sara graduated from FIDM in 2005 with a Merchandise Marketing Degree, and moved back to Sacramento to be closer to her family. At just 23 years old, Sara purchased her first home in Natomas, and worked at Origins--a natural skincare line. Loving a tan look, Origins opened up her eyes to the dangers of tanning beds and UV rays. Having a bad experience with a Versa Upright spray tanning machine, Sara realized she could do this! Like a true boss, Sara became a certified airbrush artist in 2011. Experiencing a loss of passion, Sara re-entered the corporate world of property management and real estate. As we all know, life happens, and her commission was cut. Needing extra funds, Sara began tanning friends in her garage and Natural Glo was born.

“I missed the creative element in my life so I picked up my old hobby, marketed myself and started mostly tanning clients after work from 5-10 pm. I got let go from my job, (thank you universe) and decided I was going to make this my full time career. I wanted to create and build a trusted brand for spray tanning. There was no place existing with service, experience, and results. I wanted to bring this element to the industry. I rented a small room at a salon, then moved to my own suite, grew out of the space in a year, and have now opened our flagship location on J Street in Midtown!”

When Sara asked why she should support me as a candidate, I shared my goal of building a sustainable business myself, and my social impact initiative Read Dream Succeed CA™. We connected on our shared belief that education is the building block to success--especially for young women. As a business owner, Sara knows that literacy is crucial to any successful business and marketing strategy. In early childhood, Sara was intimidated when reading out loud in class, and experienced challenges with spelling. These early experiences cultivated Sara’s value for education, and she now focuses on building a team of educated individuals to assist her company’s growth.

Before meeting Emily, what did you know about the Miss America Organization and other pageants?

"Growing up, my best friend and I would watch the Miss Yuba Sutter Pageants at the fair. I remember telling my dad I wanted to compete and he said, jokingly, what would your talent be? Hitting softballs off the stage? Ironically, there was a girl who did that for her talent, so I guess I could have competed after all…..I actually watch the pageants on TV with my husband, he follows the programming more than I do. However, I enjoy watching the pageants. It's girly and inspiring at the same time!"

When Emily approached you to support the local branch of Miss America, why did you say yes?

"I admire others that go after what they want and achieve their dreams, I'm that girl too!"

I am proud to claim Sara and Natural Glo as a personal competition sponsor in my journey with the Miss California Organization. For my appointments with Sara’s team, booking was easy with an online schedule. Airbrush tanning can be awkward for many women, especially if you are not happy with how you may look. Sara and the Natural Glo team made me incredibly comfortable, and I left the salon feeling both empowered and, dare I say, glowing?!

If you’d like to keep tan all year around, please consider tanning with Natural Glo in Midtown Sacramento. You will not find another company in Sacramento that focuses on skin health, organic products, and their clients with equal passion. You can book a tan here. If you mention “EMILY20” at checkout, you can receive 20% off any tanning service.

Local and regional businesses are the backbone of the Miss America and Miss California Organizations. Without sponsor support, we would be unable to provide scholarships to assist young women in achieving their dreams. Sponsors like Sara are the embodiment of Miss America values--women achieving their dreams, helping other young women along the way, and giving back to their communities. And if we enjoy being tan, all the better!
